Following on from a blog I wrote earlier in the year, I mentioned the fantastic benefit we have at Broster Buchanan. After 5 years’ service you are entitled to a 1-month sabbatical on full pay, a truly great chance to reset and enjoy some quality family time.
I was able to take advantage of this in August and had an amazing time with the family. A great opportunity to relax, unwind and not suffer from the guilt that most working parents have during the summer holidays. My month was filled with a 2-week cruise of the Norwegian Fjords, a week in Cornwall followed by a weekend at Longleat Safari and a week to chill at home.
As someone that is claustrophobic, I was sceptical of a cruise but am now a convert! It was easily the most stress-free experience of any holiday I have had. All of it summed up by my son saying, “Daddy go work hard and we can go on a big boat again!” Norway is full of beautiful scenery with the ship itself filled with good food, drinks and plenty of entertainment for any age. I was able to visit 5/6 different locations across Norway and Hamburg; we really loved taking time to enjoy the different cultures and cuisine. As always Cornwall was full of day trips to Looe, Charlestown, Polperro and the Eden project. I found that a weekend at Longleat was the perfect way to break up the tedious travel back from Cornwall to Cambridgeshire.
Most recruiters would be worried about leaving their desk for a month, however with the experience we have at BB it was an easy and smooth transition. A big thank you to team Peterborough, also to the senior leadership team for giving such a great benefit.
Now to persuade the powers that be to have another sabbatical at 10 years. 😉
