Early Impressions Leading Accounting & Finance Recruitment in the Home Counties

Early Impressions Leading Accounting & Finance Recruitment in the Home Counties

I’m Louise Tallboy-Wood, and I’ve been a Director at Broster Buchanan for two months, and – wow!

Leading accounting and finance recruitment in the Northern Home Counties has been fantastic, and given me an incredible insight into the how the accounting and financial landscape is evolving – and fast! The region’s diverse business ecosystem has created unique opportunities for finance professionals. Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas continue to attract ambitious finance talent seeking career progression and meaningful work.

Returning from maternity leave and stepping into a leadership position has been a rollercoaster and true juggle-of-plates, but one filled with new energy (some of that nervous energy – I’ll be honest) and a whole lot of passion for what we’re building here at Broster Buchanan.

The Fast-Moving Markets of Accounting & Finance in the Home Counties

Rejoining the recruitment world in Spring 2025, especially within the Accounting & Finance markets, has been a real eye-opener. Across the UK, the story is of a stagnating economy with low growth, yet, that is definitely not what I have seen across the Northern Home Counties. Quite the reverse, the atmosphere is vibrant and competitive, and great fun to work in!

We’re seeing a continued demand for strong finance professionals, particularly in areas such as:

        • Commercial Finance / FP&A
        • Ambitious ACCA/CIMA active studiers
        • Financial Control
        • Finance Transformation / ERP integration roles

Businesses are having to navigate change, and they are looking for finance talent who bring not just a technical expertise, but commercial insight and adaptability, too.

Even before my maternity-leave, but much more so now, businesses are  focusing on purpose, flexibility and a long-term fit for their hires, over any quick wins or short-term monetary gains. To this end, it’s a space where relationships and trust matter more than ever – a space where Broster Buchanan is showing its leadership and direction, and I’m delighted to be a part of that focus.

Why Broster Buchanan for Finance Recruitment?

As you can probably tell already, what drew me to Broster Buchanan was simple: their values, vision, and authenticity – it aligned perfectly with my outlook

Broster Buchanan is a business that genuinely walks the talk when it comes to flexibility, autonomy, and empowering people to succeed. It’s not a case of ‘earning your stripes’ before gaining our trust at all. The culture is all about what we can do to provide the best environment to see you work to your best – results will follow. As someone returning from maternity leave, that trust and flexibility has made all the difference. From day one, I’ve been trusted to work in partnership with the leadership team to build the Milton Keynes Accounting & Finance office the way I think works – and it has. Our support functions genuinely value my thoughts and it’s brilliant to see recommendations being implemented so early into my role – thank you, Broster Buchanan.

        Building the Finance Team

One of the most rewarding aspects of these first few months has been the opportunity to be part of growing a team from the ground up. To attract talented individuals who care deeply about doing recruitment the right way has been an absolute joy to undertake. All the people I now work alongside want to build lasting, growing partnerships, to see their candidates and clients thrive over time and set fair for the future. No one is interested in just making placements and moving on.

Of course, we’re still at the start of our journey and I have no doubt that there will be some bumps in the road. However, the ambition, energy, and culture that we’ve already established is something I’m deeply proud of, and one that I feel will be able to see us through whatever gets thrown our way.

The Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2025 Recognition

One of the proudest moments since joining Broster Buchanan was seeing the business listed in The Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2025 – how cool right? Not only that, but it was the second year running that we’ve hit that benchmark!

It’s a huge achievement and one that truly reflects the culture I’ve experienced firsthand, every day, since day one.

Fancy Being Part of A Growing, Vibrant Team?

If you’re a recruiter in the Accounting & Finance space or someone looking to step into a forward-thinking, values-led business – I’d love to talk. Whether you’re seeking accounting and finance opportunities in the Northern Home Counties or looking to join our award-winning recruitment team, I’d love to connect.
