The Successful Formula for Being an Interim in London

Earlier this week, we brought together a group of experienced interims and industry professionals in London to explore a topic that continues to evolve, what it really takes to build a successful interim career today.

Hosted by our own Phill Westcott, the session featured an open and engaging panel discussion with James Chaplin, Anil Sooleehall and Ben Moralee, who shared honest insights from their own interim journeys.

Rather than focusing on theory, the conversation centred on real experiences. What works, what doesn’t, and how the interim market is shifting in response to wider changes across technology, business expectations, and hiring trends.

A few themes stood out throughout the discussion. Mindset was a big one. The move into interim isn’t just a change in role, it’s a shift in how you position yourself, manage your time, and approach opportunities. There was also a strong focus on staying relevant, particularly with the growing influence of AI across both roles and hiring processes. Those who actively embrace change are often the ones who continue to secure the most interesting and rewarding assignments.

Another key takeaway was the importance of ongoing development. It’s easy to prioritise delivery when you’re in role, but the most successful interims are those who consistently invest time in building their network, refining their proposition, and staying close to the market.

Events like this are a reminder that while interim careers can be independent by nature, there is real value in sharing experiences and learning from others in the same space.
