      Getting to know…

      Lucy Tavender – Business Director

Tell us a bit about yourself…

I started my career in practice at PWC straight from university, working in accountancy for five years. I met a great recruiter during my time in practice and she asked me if I’d ever thought about a career in recruitment, we discussed key skills and agreed I was a good fit. The rest as they say is history!

I have now worked in recruitment for over 20 years. I started at a large business; it was hard work but a great experience. Eight years ago, Dominic Cassidy contacted me to explain Broster Buchanan was being set up and having worked with Dom previously I knew and trusted him. I quickly agreed to work for BB as it was immediately apparent the new business aligned with my values and although it was a risk I jumped at the chance and haven’t regretted it.

      What drives you?

Lots of things motivate me personally and professionally. I work hard for my colleagues and do all I can to support their success; we are a relationship-based business, and how we work with each other is just as important as our external relationships, therefore maintaining contact with my colleagues and clients is a big driver.

I find helping people so rewarding and moving roles shouldn’t be underestimated, it can be life-changing. There really is nothing better than letting someone know they have been successful and offered a role. A large proportion of my clients I have worked with for 20 years, I take great pride in supporting them and am delighted when they continue to come back to me to support them.

      Career highlights

A big highlight is recognising how far BB has come, the journey from where we started to now is incredible. Not only is it a success story but I genuinely enjoy working with my colleagues. In the early days winning large projects when we were small was very fulfilling, knowing we had built relationships with clients over the years to the extent that they trusted us as a start-up was rewarding.

      Personal facts

I live in the South West with my husband, two children and dog Maggie (or Margaret if she’s in trouble!). I love to spend time with family and friends, and when I have time to myself I enjoy running. I’m also a big tennis fan, I love to spectate and also play myself when I can.
